Terms and Conditions

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account and using elapso ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

elapso is a web application that allows users to create and track events by measuring elapsed or remaining time. Users may create, share, and follow events. The Service is provided as-is and may be updated or modified at any time.

3. User Accounts

You must provide a valid email address to use the Service — either directly with a password, by signing in with a supported third-party sign-in provider (Google, Apple, Facebook, X, Microsoft, or GitHub — "Continue with …"), or by confirming an email reminder request ("Remind me"), which creates a password-free account after you click the confirmation link we send you. Password-free accounts can set a password at any time using the password reset flow. A username is generated for you automatically at signup and can be changed later in your profile settings. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account; by creating an account you confirm that you meet this age requirement.

4. User Content

You retain ownership of any content you create on elapso (events, descriptions, profile information, comments, time capsule messages, and challenges). By posting content, you grant elapso a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display and distribute that content as part of operating the Service. For events you set to public, this licence includes displaying the event's title, date, and running countdown in an embeddable widget that third-party websites may include in their pages; you can withdraw a public event from embedding at any time by setting it to private or deleting it.

Time capsule messages are a special type of content: once submitted, they cannot be edited — they remain sealed and private until the associated event's countdown ends, at which point they are revealed only to you. You may delete your own time capsule message at any time, whether sealed or revealed. Time capsule messages are also permanently deleted if you delete your account.

Challenges are public by default. When you join a public challenge, your username and elapsed day count are visible to other participants on the challenge page. Some challenges covering sensitive topics (e.g. addiction recovery) are designated by elapso as identity-hidden: on these, other participants' usernames are not shown, though you can still see your own progress. You may leave a challenge at any time, which removes you from the active participant list; your past attempts remain in your personal history until you delete your account.

You agree not to post content that is:

  • Illegal, harmful, or offensive
  • Infringing on the intellectual property of others
  • False, misleading, or deceptive
  • Spam, advertising, or unsolicited promotion

We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these terms at our sole discretion.

5. Automated Content Moderation

To help maintain a safe environment, text and images you submit (including event titles, descriptions, comments, time capsule messages, challenge titles and descriptions, and cover images) are automatically screened by an AI moderation service before being published or stored. Content that is detected as abusive, hateful, sexually explicit, threatening, or otherwise clearly inappropriate will not be published.

If your content is flagged, you will receive an on-screen notification. Repeated violations within a 24-hour window may result in a temporary suspension of your account (see section 8). The automated moderation system is supplemented by manual review at our discretion.

Content submitted for moderation screening is processed by Anthropic (see our Privacy Policy for details). By using the Service, you consent to this processing.

6. Privacy

Your use of the Service is subject to our Privacy Policy. We collect your email address, username, and the events and profile information you choose to create. We do not sell your personal data to third parties. Public events and profiles are visible to all visitors.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service or other users' accounts
  • Use the Service to distribute malware or conduct phishing attacks
  • Scrape or harvest data from the Service without our written permission
  • Use the Service in any way that could damage, disable, or impair it

8. Suspension and Termination

You may delete your account at any time from your account settings. All your personal data will be permanently deleted upon account deletion.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms and Conditions. In addition, the Service uses an automated moderation system: if your content is flagged on multiple occasions within a 24-hour window, your account may be automatically suspended for 48 hours. You will be notified on-screen when a suspension is applied. After the suspension period your account is restored automatically. Repeated or severe violations may lead to permanent termination by manual review.

If you believe a suspension has been applied in error, you have the right to request a human review of the decision and to contest it. Contact hello@elapso.com and we will respond promptly.

9. Reporting Illegal Content

If you encounter content on elapso that you believe is illegal under applicable law (including EU law), you can report it directly on the website: open the feedback button (speech bubble icon, bottom of any page), select "Report illegal content", and provide the URL of the content, an explanation of why you believe it is illegal, your contact email, and a good-faith declaration — as provided for by Article 16 of the EU Digital Services Act (Regulation (EU) 2022/2065).

Alternatively, you may email hello@elapso.com with the subject line "Illegal content report", including the same information.

We review all reports and take action without undue delay. You will be informed of the decision taken on your report and, where content is removed or an account is restricted, the affected user will receive a statement of reasons and may contest the decision by contacting hello@elapso.com.

10. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. elapso is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

11. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time. For significant changes, we will notify registered users by email at least 15 days before the changes take effect, stating the effective date. If you do not agree with the updated terms, you may delete your account at any time before the effective date, free of charge. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Minor changes that do not affect your rights or obligations (e.g. clarifications, formatting, or contact details) may be made without prior notice; the "Last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.

12. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms and Conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with Belgian law. Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms or your use of the Service that cannot be resolved amicably shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of Belgium.

If you are a consumer resident in another EU member state, you may also benefit from any mandatory consumer protection provisions of your country of residence, and you may have the right to bring proceedings before the courts of your country of residence.
